Goodbye Popcorn
September 19, 2007
Dialing to tell the time goes bye bye. In northern California for years you
could dial 7672676 or popcorn to get the current local time. No more,
because of obsolete equipment and the need to free up additional phones
numbers AT&T has discontinued the service. There are speaking clocks that
can be access by phone for the Mountain time zone at 1 719 567 6742
and for the Eastern time at 1 202 762 1401.
Manually
setting the time on your cell phone is not the best solution to the new
daylight saving changes.
April 2, 2007 was a
surprise for many cell phone user's who manually set the clocks on their
cell phone one hour ahead back on March 11, 2007. The current local time had
automatically move forward one hour again. With out the daylight saving
updates this can happen twice a year. In addition many application and
programs on many cell phone will not function properly when it comes to
telling time. For a three week period every March and a one week period
every November all any program or software applications that relates to time
will be inaccurate during this time. Telling time is important. That is why
it is best to download the updates and stay current with them. Many programs
need these updates to properly calculate or convert the time.
Daylight saving extended. Updates available.
March 11, 2007--Daylight saving
has been extended to the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of
November in the U.S. ,and several other countries causing confusion between
time zones. Millions of people around the world use their smartphones to
call internationally each month. Understanding the time difference between
these locations becomes more of an issue when making calls.
In an effort to save energy more
countries around the world are considering extending daylight saving in the coming
years. During this transition period, it can become a more than likely
occurrence that a phone call is made at the inappropriate time.
Microsoft has an update for mobile users to download on to their
smartphones. This update will address the new time zone changes. For more
